The Challenge
We were invited to reinvigorate the historic Brakspear bitter brand as part of a competitive pitch process.
Our Approach
Brakspear was a brand that had been muddled over the last fifteen years – once a symbol of Oxfordshire, ownership was split between Marstons and a local pub chain. The brand had suffered from underinvestment, and nobody really seemed to know what it was, what it stood for, or why it was relevant.
We created a new identity, creating a new RTB stack for the brand – we centred on its Oxford heritage and created the ‘Twin Bulls’ insignia – the bull being the symbol of Oxfordshire.
We then focused on the brewing method – the unique ‘double-drop’ technique to give the bitter a differentiator. We also created a range of other beer labels to re-identify the Brakspear range, focusing on iconic areas of Oxford (Jericho Hitch for example).
